Asphalt Institute teaches in the Middle East
Posted February 10th, 2010

AI Senior Regional Engineers Mark Blow and Wayne Jones taught quality materials, best construction practices and the Bailey Method over a three-day period in Doha, Qatar in January.

This marked the first time AI taught a class in a Gulf Coast country in the Middle East. The class consisted of 60-plus transportation officials, consultants, material suppliers, and engineers who are anxious to improve their HMA pavement performance in preparation for a bid for the 2022 Summer Olympic Games.

With a growing economy that generates large traffic volumes, combined with high temperatures and heavy slow-moving vehicles, pavements in Qatar are exposed to the most extreme conditions possible for HMA pavements.
